How much liability insurance should I carry?

I’m Herb Friedman of Friedman Law Offices in Lincoln, Nebraska. Thanks for visiting our blog and spending a few minutes with us. We are frequently asked by our clients, “How much insurance should I carry and what are the types of coverage I buy?”

Nebraska law and the law of most states require a minimum requirement of liability insurance. Nebraska has a $25,000 minimum limit on liability insurance that you must carry before you can get you car licensed. Liability insurance coverage is insurance that pays a third party that is injured because of your own negligent conduct. We think $25,000 is far too low. We recommend at least $250,000 for you own protection. It does not take long for medical bills to mount up, even for relatively simple injuries.

We have seen many clients forced into bankruptcy because they had inadequate liability insurance coverage for your medical bills.
